My Three Cats Bury's weekly blog
The gift of kitties
Hi cat fans!
Jen here for the weekly blog post from My Three Cats - Bury, premium cat sitter.
Had a break from blogging last week as it was a difficult time in the MTC Bury house due to bereavement anniversaries. Why am I sharing this with you all? Because the comfort my cats give, especially one whose anniversary it was at the end of May, is truly priceless.
Mental Health Awareness month MAY have been last month (still punny!) but it's an ongoing struggle for many and so that's why I'm keeping it in the spotlight. Other blog posts this month will continue the focus on stress and wellbeing. This week the focus is on how our sweet angels help us, and the other ones will be focused on the kitties.
Puddy Purrs
How many times has your cat helped you through a difficult time? Did you even realise it at the time?

When I lost my Frazier, pictured above (wasn't he the most handsome kid?!), on 31st May 2025 my world changed. The boy that had been with me through a lot over 15 years was gone and the cat that always helped me when grieving was no longer here. My other two definitely knew, and gave more cuddles, but Frazier would snuggle and put his paw out on my hand, he'd curl up on my lap, he'd allow, and quite liked, cuddles, and from being a very timid young cat that hid under the house he became the best cat. He showed other kitties I brought home how to cat, he would groom them (and me!) and was a calming centre for the household. Sometimes it's not that our pets are part of our family, it's that they are the family, as it is in my case. I don't want to overshare but it's incredible how a purr can lift your spirits and how a cat choosing to show you love and just 'knowing' when they're needed helps. It was the anniversary of when my Dad passed on Sunday and Mickey barely left my side. He snuggled when I was snoozing, putting is paw on my hand, resting his head on my arm, and these are things Frazier used to do. Mickey was the same the Sunday before on Frazier's anniversary. He's always a snuggly boy but on those days he gave more. People have asked why I chose to re-home a 17 year old kitty and it's simple, I wanted to give back to a species that are gifts to us in so many ways, after he lost his human I just had to give him a home.

How their just being helps us
How does a purring cat help us? Low decibels mimic vibrations needed to heal, soothe, whilst the rhythmic nature helps calm, helping us to release endorphins and reduce that stressy cortisol! How many of you have felt an instant sense of calm coming over you when a cat purrs? Just sitting and watching a cat snooze is calming, I find. Do you?
They're cute, have such individual characters, and as Earnest Hemingway says in the quote above they don't hide their emotions (unlike their pain!) and when a cat chooses to own you as their human it's a stamp of approval unlike no other.
As cats (and animals in general) help our wellbeing in so many ways I'd love to hear stories of how your kitty has helped you, or others.
I saw a post the other day saying how the actress Jennifer Garner (any other 13 going on 30 fans out there?!) said how her cat brought her such comfort in a time of personal grief, giving calm, companionship, and routine. That resonated as even when I don't feel like doing much I will look after and be up and there for my kitties (and the poorly animals I nurse in practice). Giving back helps healing, and that's why I've joined My Three Cats, as it is all about cats deserving more, and their people.
So, in leaving with the last question, Ronnie poses it well with his tail (below), what is the best thing your cat does to cheer you up, make you laugh, or drive you nuts? Pop a reply on the blog, or any of the social media posts. We love funny pics and videos, too 😻

On a personal note, not MTC related:
One last thing is that I will be doing a 100km walk over a weekend in June to raise funds for the MS Society. If anyone can donate and sponsor me in this personal challenge I'd be ever so grateful, as would all those who suffer with, and family of those with, this horrid debilitating disease.
